Is the Dash Express a TrafficGauge product?
No, the Dash is manufactured and supported by Dash Navigation. We were simply very pleased with the Dash product and are now a reseller offering the product to our customers at a steep discount.
Why does TrafficGauge recommend Dash traffic?
During our tests, we were impressed with the quality and breadth of the Dash traffic data. The Dash device shows a birds-eye view of traffic like the TrafficGauge Handheld. Very few GPS devices offer an at-a-glance view. Dash users automatically share their actual speeds with the entire Dash network, real-time data is available to supplement the traffic data available through conventional sources. So rather than get data from freeway sensors located a mile apart, you get data down to the individual Dash user. Also, we were impressed that the Dash network allows tracking of speeds on side streets – something we didn’t find anywhere else. And finally, the fact that the dash offers three routing options based on traffic addresses a major need for daily commuters.
Why is TrafficGauge selling the Dash Express?
We know that some of our customers want to move up from the TrafficGauge to a device with more advanced features and a wider coverage area. So rather than lose those customers to GPS companies that we know do a poor job of traffic, we identified a product that we can recommend wholeheartedly.
Does my TrafficGauge service transfer to a Dash Express?
TrafficGauge is a partner with Dash, and our companies and service programs are separate. However, by ordering through TrafficGauge you do receive a $100 discount as compared to other retailers of the Dash. If you own a TrafficGauge your service will continue on your TrafficGauge Handheld TrafficGauge as per your service agreement.
Why is there a subscription fee?
The subscription fee pays for the wireless connections included with each device. This allows detailed traffic updates, Yahoo web searches while you drive, and automatic map and product updates. Other GPS devices us an FM connection for traffic information (with a subscription fee) but the FM connection lacks capacity so it is only useful for limited traffic updates. The Dash Express’ connection is much more powerful and enables much greater functionality.
I am buying a new car soon – why shouldn’t I wait and get built-in GPS and traffic?
It is pretty cool to have a system integrated into your vehicle. But the data is essentially outdated the minute you buy the vehicle – and map and product updates are more difficult, if not impossible, with a built-in system. In addition, there technology is always about 3 years behind which is how long it takes to design a car, where with the Dash you will enjoy constant updates of information and functionality automatically via the wireless connection.
Can the Dash reroute me around traffic?
Yes. And since Dash provides the best traffic data we have found, the re-routing and ETA estimates are more effective than other GPS devices.
What are the differences between a Dash and another GPS device?
The differences can all be traced back to one key technical detail: the Dash is wirelessly connected to the Dash network and to the internet. By contrast, no other GPS is connected to the outside world and rely on the information stored in memory. So that means that the maps, software, points of interest, etc. in a conventional GPS are out of date the minute you buy it – and getting updates requires some work. The Dash, on the other hand, is always connected so not only can you do live searches on the internet, but the device is always operating with the latest software updates, the latest maps, and the latest traffic.
